Sprint Distance Triathlon

TYR SWIM COURSE - 800 meters

Expected water temperature for the race is a crisp 67 degrees. Wetsuits are highly encouraged.  TriSports.com will have a limited number of wetsuits available for rent at the race.  They will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.  If you would like to reserve one in advance, you can contact TriSports.com toll-free at 1-888-293-3934 or email service@trisports.com

The sprint distance swim will be a triangular course (see map below).  Athletes will begin the race in the water.  All athletes for each wave will be in the water before each wave begins.  Wave information including swim start times will be included with your race packet and posted at the race site.  Once the swim begins, swimmers will proceed in a straight line to the first large buoy located North of the start.  The course will be run in a clockwise direction.  Once you hit the first large buoy, turn right and swim the short side of the course toward the second large buoy.  Remember to keep all buoys on your right.  At the second large buoy, turn right again and head for the finish.  You will finish the swim between 2 large buoys where volunteers will direct you up the boat ramp.  For those athletes that would like help in removing their wetsuits, volunteers will be available for support. A designated area will be marked for this purpose.

PROFILE DESIGN SPRINT BIKE COURSE - 20 kilometers

The 2-loop Sprint Distance Bike Course will take athletes through a scenic tour of the city of Show Low. Upon heading out of the park, riders will tackle their steepest challenge in a series of rolling hills. This first small climb will give the riders an early test and an indication what is to come.  Rolling hills scatter the looped course as it moves through the streets of Show Low. Athletes will ride around the city park and head back toward the lake.  The loop will be repeated before heading back into the park where the transition area and the run await.

Bike support by Cycle Mania of Show Low.

SPRINT RUN COURSE - 5 kilometers

The Sprint run course will be a scenic out and back run along the edge of Fool Hollow Lake.  From the transition area, runners will head slightly downhill to reach the lake path. The majority of the run will take place on this packed-dirt path surrounding the lake. The path is mostly flat with some slight up and down with some challenging terrain near the turn around point. Runners will have another challenge toward the end of the run where they must climb up from the lake to the finishing chute. This incline will provide runners with the option of tackling the hill by taking the stairs! Once over the climb athletes will finish along a paved road to the finishing chute.

Course change: The Sprint Run course will no longer be an out and back.  We will take runners through the Redhead campground and back on a paved road for a loop course. We have done this to eliminate head-to-head traffic on the lake path.  This also means that you will no longer have the option of taking the stairs.  Sorry!  Check race packets for final course map.
